I grew up in a Christian home and always believed in God. At 14, while in boarding school in Nigeria, I gave my life to Christ for the first time. But despite my faith, I struggled with deep-seated negative emotions—rejection, fear, self-doubt, loneliness, and a lack of confidence. These feelings followed me even after moving to the UK in 2007.
For years, I kept these struggles to myself. I told myself they weren’t “big enough” to bring to God. I figured I could handle them on my own—either by ignoring them or accepting them. Some days were good, others were awful, and some left me crying endlessly.
But as I grew in my faith, I realized nothing is too small or too big to bring to God. So, I finally opened up. I poured out my worries in prayer, telling Him exactly what was on my mind, how I felt, and what I longed to change.
At first, nothing seemed different. I wondered if God had even heard me. But in 2018, I made a choice—to trust Him completely and accept His peace. The Holy Spirit led me to this verse:
“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.” – Matthew 6:33
That was a turning point.
The Steps That Changed Everything
After opening up to God, I changed how I responded to negative thoughts:
✔️ Faith-Filled Worship – I immersed myself in worship music that built my faith and encouraged my heart.
✔️ Biblical Mind Renewal – I read Battlefield of the Mind by Joyce Meyer and Think Better, Live Better by Joel Osteen. Journaling became a daily habit—I wrote down both positive and negative thoughts, replacing the negative ones with spiritual affirmations.
✔️ Time with God – I spent more time in His presence, reading Scripture, soaking in worship, listening to sermons, and simply talking to Him in prayer.
Through these practices, God showed me how to take control of my thoughts, reject the enemy’s lies, and embrace His love. And with that came His peace—the peace that surpasses all understanding.
Winning the Battle of the Mind
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that winning the battle of the mind is an ongoing process. It’s not a one-time victory but a daily commitment. Negative thoughts still come, but having the right spiritual tools makes all the difference:
🛡️ Shield of Faith – To block the enemy’s lies.
⚔️ Belt of Truth – To stand firm in God’s Word.
The more we equip ourselves with truth and faith, the easier it becomes to redirect our focus back to God.
God Works Through Miracles, Not Magic
Sometimes, we pray for God to instantly remove our struggles, expecting Him to “fix” things overnight. But God often provides the tools, wisdom, and strength we need to take action.
I once heard Bishop T.D. Jakes say, “People pray for God to give them a table, not realizing He has already given them a tree.” We might think our prayers go unanswered when, in reality, God has provided everything we need—we just have to trust and act.
Final Encouragement
If you’re battling negative thoughts, feeling overwhelmed, or struggling with self-doubt, remember this:
“I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33
God wants you to have His peace. Put on the belt of truth and the shield of faith, and stand firm against the lies of the enemy.
The lowest moments, when God feels distant, are often the very place He is preparing you for your greatest breakthroughs.
