Fear is one of the biggest obstacles to growth. It keeps us stuck, doubting our abilities, and questioning our purpose. But what if we stopped letting fear control our decisions?
There’s a common acronym for fear: False Evidence Appearing Real. The first time I heard this, it deeply resonated with me—because fear often feels real, even when it’s not.
My Personal Battle with Fear
I’ve always struggled with the fear of the unknown. If I couldn’t predict an outcome, I hesitated. Maybe you can relate?
- Should I apply for that job? What if I fail?
- Should I start my blog? What if no one reads it?
- What if I say the wrong thing? What if I’m not good enough?
For two months, I let fear keep me from launching my blog. Doubt, comparison, and overthinking became my biggest roadblocks. But something shifted when I chose faith over fear. Instead of focusing on what could go wrong, I started asking: What if God is in this? What if He’s calling me to step out in faith?
I surrendered my fears and trusted that God would lead the way.
If God is in this story—and I know He is—then He will be glorified through it.
A Biblical Example of Unshakable Faith
My fear was about stepping outside my comfort zone. But in Daniel 3, we see a much greater test of faith—the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
These three men refused to bow to King Nebuchadnezzar’s golden idol, even under the threat of death. Their response was bold:
“If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it… But even if He does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold.” (Daniel 3:17-18)
🔥 Even if He does not. 🔥
Their faith wasn’t based on outcomes—it was rooted in their unshakable trust that God’s plan is always good, no matter what.
And because of their faith, God delivered them from the fire completely unharmed. The king, amazed by what he witnessed, praised God and promoted them to higher positions.
This story reminds us that choosing faith over fear doesn’t mean everything will be easy. It means trusting God, even when we don’t see the full picture.
How Fear Holds Us Back
Fear is one of the enemy’s greatest weapons. If he can plant even the smallest seed of doubt, he gains control over our thoughts.
📖 Exodus 14 tells how the Israelites, trapped between Pharaoh’s army and the Red Sea, let fear consume them. But in God’s perfect timing, He parted the sea, making a way where there seemed to be none.
✅ God’s timing may not always match ours, but His ways are perfect.
✅ He sees our struggles before we even experience them.
✅ When we choose faith, we’re never alone.
“Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” — Martin Luther King Jr.
Fear Delays God’s Promises
Fear kept the Israelites wandering in the wilderness for 40 years—a journey that could have taken 40 days (Numbers 13-14).
❌ Fear tells you you’re not good enough.
❌ Fear whispers that success is impossible.
❌ Fear convinces you to stay stuck.
But these are lies. Fear cripples. Faith frees.
God’s Word is Your Weapon Against Fear
Did you know that “Do not be afraid” appears in the Bible approximately 365 times? That’s one reminder for every day of the year!
📖 Matthew 14:22-33 tells how Peter stepped out of the boat and walked on water toward Jesus. But when he took his eyes off Christ, fear made him sink. The moment Peter cried out for help, Jesus immediately reached out His hand.
Like Peter, we will face storms. But when we fix our eyes on Jesus instead of our fears, He keeps us steady.
A Prayer for Overcoming Fear
🙏 Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your unfailing love. I know You have not given me a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7).
Lord, I trust You even when I can’t see the full picture. Help me stand firm like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego—confident that You are with me.
In Jesus’ name, I break free from fear’s grip. I receive peace, courage, and strength to step forward in faith. I am free.
Amen.
🔹What’s Your “Even If” Moment?
Have you faced a time when you chose faith over fear? Or are you currently struggling with fear in your life? I’d love to hear your story in the comments below. Let’s encourage one another as we walk in faith together.
In fact, am really blessed with all you’ve admonished us with.
Let me lend a voice here that, me too I’ve gone through troubled times when I was struggling with the spirit of fear.
When my first son was traveling to the US at the age of 16years, fear gripped me, especially with the kind of story one is hearing from that country. I cried. But because I’ve taught him the way of the Lord, I just have to let go. And I thank God today, that, he’s on his own, gotten married and doing well for himself. To God be the glory.
Growing faith is what we should desire to have and what God desires to produce in us. But how, in day-to-day life, can we develop a faith that conquers our fears? The Bible says, “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God” (Romans 10:17). The careful study of God’s Word is of primary importance in developing a strong faith. God wants us to know Him and completely rely on His direction in our lives. It’s through the hearing, reading, and meditation in the Scriptures that we begin to experience a strong, confident faith that excludes worry and fear.
David, who like us, experienced times of fear. Psalm 56:3 reveals his faith with these words: “When I am afraid, I will trust in you. He trusted God all the way.
God can be trusted. Pls let us trust Him and He will allay all our fears.
God bless you.
Thank you so much for sharing your testimony 🙂 Praise God it all turned out well….we serve a God who never leaves us nor forsakes us!
The verse you shared is absolutely key. God’s word is a vital tool to grow in faith.
God bless you 🙂
